Lamborghinis and the Quarter Mile?
Can Lamborghinis and Funny Cars mix? Do Hummer Limos and 18-Wheelers ever race the ¼ mile? Racing fans can find out when the Fireball Run II comes to the US 131 Motorsports Park on Saturday, October 4.
The Fireball Run II is a Transcontinental Road Rally featuring exotic cars, celebrities, and a serious cause. After leaving Baton Rouge on September 26, Fireball participants will be spending time in Allegan and Martin on October 4 as they make their way to the finish line in Grand Rapids. The celebrities’ goal during the 3,500 mile run is to help the Children Rescue Network recover missing children. The teams’ cars will display missing child decals and the competitors will be handing out flyers on an adopted missing child from their home area along the route. Last year’s rally recovered 13 of the 67 assigned missing children.
On that same day the US 131 Motorsports Park will be hosting the Funny Car Nationals, which had to be rescheduled to October 4 from the rain-saturated Saturday of September 13. “We’re pleased to be able to offer our fans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see over $5 million of exotic cars running our track,” said General Manager Jason Peterson. “And, it is an honor to be able to help such a worthwhile cause spread their information.”
Spectators that would like to see the Fireballers should be at the track by noon. Qualifying for the Funny Car Nationals begins at 3:00 p.m. with the first round of Funny Car eliminations scheduled for 5:00 p.m. “We encourage everyone to come early, see the Fireballers, and stay for the entire Funny Car Nationals. It will be a long day of drag racing with a unique twist and a very good cause,” quipped Jason.
Specially priced vouchers are available at participating Wayland, Plainwell, and Allegan McDonald’s restaurants. The $15 adult ticket includes a free child’s admission, which is a combined $17 savings.
