(Battle Creek, Mi) West Michigan Fundraising will be carrying on a tradition by hosting the 7th Annual Children’s Leukemia Foundation Dinner beginning at 5pm on Sunday, October 18, at Kellogg Arena in Downtown Battle Creek. The most star studded lineup in the history of the dinner features Jennie Ritter (former USA Softball Olympian and University of Michigan Softball pitcher), Kira Hurley (the only female goaltender in the Hockey Hall of Fame), Dan “The Beast” Severn (former UFC Heavy Weight Champion), the Battle Creek Revolution hockey team, and many more special guests.
“This is going to be the greatest lineup for the CLF Dinner in the history of the event,” stated Andy Jach, the Charity Dinner Founder. “We’re going to have a little bit of everything for everyone at the Dinner, including Roller Derby, special guest speakers, and a nationally known comedian who will be supplied by Gary Fields Comedy Club.”
Professional Softball Player Jennie Ritter, recently named by Sports Illustrated Magazine as one of the University of Michigan's top 10 athletes in school history, will be a special guest speaker at the dinner. The University of Michigan career leader in strikeouts, no-hitters, shutouts, and innings pitched, as well as the only Wolverine to throw a postseason no-hitter in U-M softball history, Jennie won a College Softball World Series title with the Wolverines in 2005 and was named the Big 10 player of the year that same season. Jennie's accomplishments didn't stop at the college ranks as she moved on to Team USA's Softball team, winning several gold medals in tournaments around the world and being named the 2005 USA Softball Player of the Year, and most recently making her professional debut with the Toyota Softball Team in Japan. During the off-season, she helps train serious individuals who wish to take their athletic careers to new heights at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida, alongside notable athletes such as two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Dot Richardson.
Jennie, who has family in the Kalamazoo area, is looking forward to coming and supporting this great event. Her presence will help make this year's CLF Dinner the biggest to date and females of all ages will benefit from being able to meet and listen to this inspirational role model. She will be giving a speech designed to inspire our guests for the evening to never give up the fight, no matter the odds, and enjoy life "one pitch at a time". Jennie will also be on hand to sign autographs, take pictures, and talk with any of her fans throughout the evening.
The local community has stepped up to the plate and shown West Michigan Fundraising that Battle Creek should remain home to this annual charity dinner by helping put together a phenomenal evening of entertainment. Along with the extensive field of guests, audience members will get to enjoy the WIN 98.5 Cruisin’ for a Cure Car Show. The Car Show will kick off the event inside Kellogg Arena when doors open at 3:00PM. Gary Fields Comedy Club will be providing a nationally known comedian to perform as well. The Killamazoo Derby Darlins, Kalamazoo’s Professional Roller Derby team, will be taking on the “Bad Boys of Charity” in an exhibition roller derby match. AMPCO Parking Systems will be providing free parking in the parking garage for all Dinner guests.
Tickets for this event are at an all time low price of $12 for Adults, $6 for kids 5-12, and no charge for children under 5 years old. Tickets can be purchased by visiting our website at www.annualcharitydinner.com or by phone by calling 269-720-9072. The dinner portion of the night will feature pulled pork, chicken breasts, garlic mash potatoes, veggies and dip, desert, and drinks, all included in this one low price.
The fundraising won’t stop at just Dinner and a Car Show. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, both a live and a silent auction, and the opportunity for fans to see if they can score on NHL Hall of Famer Kira Hurley at $1 per shot. The auctions will feature such items as a Michael Jackson Autographed Record Album, an Autographed Eric Clapton Guitar, an Autographed Picture of Miley Cyrus, a Detroit Red Wings Jersey signed by the player of your choice, a Mini Detroit Lions Helmet signed by Julian Peterson, a Game Worn Detroit Tigers Jersey, a round of golf at Old Mill Golf Course, and much more.
