Corunna, Michigan (Thursday, August 14, 2009): Owosso Speedway hosted
the Shiawassee County Fair Night at the Races on Thursday, August 13th
at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds in Corunna, Michigan. A very
large crowd was on hand to watch the exciting racing action on the
very unique 1/4 (0.250) mile high-banked dirt oval located within the
Fairgrounds.
Owosso Speedway's Fast Track Promotions Sport Stocks were on the card
and after the Michigan Traditional Sprints Series Feature was
completed, the four and six-cylinders rolled out onto the track for
there 15-lap feature event on the uniquely shaped dirt oval.
15-year-old Joey Rodgers and veteran, Dennis O'Neil brought the 10-car
field to the green flag to start the feature.
Patrick McNamara, who started inside the second row made a daring
manuever to the inside of the front row and charged out to the lead on
the very first lap. Current Fast Track Promotions Sport Stocks points
leader, Shaun Connor, driving Jeff Aseltine's #24 Affordable Tire and
Service Center Chevrolet Lumina for the night, started fourth next to
McNamara and followed himthe front rowto grab second spot.
Conner looked high and low, trying to figure out a way around
McNamara, but McNamara in his Marc Times Racing News / Michigan Racing
Scene Dodge Neon wasn't to be denied this night as the Cement City,
Michigan driver would hold of Conner and lead all 15 laps for the
feature win!
Conner settled for second while Jim Hammond earned the hard-charger of
the race award with his ninth to third place run. J.T. Leach finished
fourth as 17-year-old Tim Rodgers, the current Rookie of the Year
points leader at the Big "O", finished off the top five. His younger
brother, Joey Rodgers was sixth as 18-year-old Paige Amy was seventh.
Scott Rodgers, Tim and Joey's Uncle was eighth while O'Neil and
Richard Jolly completed the top 10.
There was no Qualifying at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds for the
Sport Stocks as the teams drew for there Heat Race and Feature
starting positions. Conner and Hammond won the heat races.
The Michigan Traditional Sprints Series were the headliners on the
night as 26 non-winged Sprint Cars were on hand. After three Heat
races and a B Main, the 30-lap feature was cut short to 28 laps due to
a very scary looking accident with just two laps to go. John Watson
would take home the Feature Win over the stellar field of Sprints.
The next race for the Michigan Traditional Sprints will actually be in
the Buckeye State on Saturday, August 15th as they'll challenge the
Waynesfield Motorsports Park in Waynefield, Ohio for the 1st annual
Jack Hewitt Classic. For complete results from the Shiawassee County
Fairgrounds as well as more information about the series, go to the
