Saturday night at Crystal Motor Speedway was another in the string of
very un-summer like nights but some exciting racing helped keep the
packed grandstands of fans happy. The event was sponsored by Papa’s
Tackle Box of downtown Crystal. The Late Models had the night off to
accommodate the mid season championships event for the Engine Pro ASCS
SOD Sprints. Dustin Daggett continued his dominance of the Crystal
clay as he took home the win with Brett Mann, Ryan Grubaugh, Gregg
Dalman, Steve Irwin, Tim Norman, Chad Goff, Aaron Shaffer, Robert
Huisken, and Andy Teunessen rounding out the top ten.
Gavin Parks ended up the winner of the Races On The Web Flinn Stock
division after a scoring review, followed Brady Hollenbeck Cory Burch
Lee Zahm Adam Bernath Zach Rummer Ken Zeigler Jeff Daniels Charles
Peterson II, and Randall Stevens. The division sported 19 cars in the
class designed for beginners. David Shields and Kory Maurice took
heat wins.
The Engine Pro IMCA Modifieds feature saw Brennan Bowen take the lead
and then the win late in the run after he overtook Robert Putt, who
also had an excellent run. Milt Montgomery took home second, followed
by Putt, Roger Flinn III, Chad Wernette, Carl Thayer, Josh Borton,
Chad Maurer, Jerry Hunt, and Rich White. Cliff Denman claimed the win
in the B feature while heats fell to Flinn, Thayer, and Brad Roberts.
Don Rohn and Vern Buskirk put on quite the finale to the Port City
Racing Pro Stock feature, with Rohn finally putting it away coming
down to the wire. Barry Rinard was tight behind the leaders for third,
followed by Jacob Headley, Derrick Dennis, Nate Jones, Jeff Reist,
Derek Schestag, Rodney Heikkila, and Terry LaClear.
Scott Nieman claimed his fifth Port City Pro Truck feature after he
overhauled Tim wood about five laps into the race. Despite pressure
from both Wood and Chris Verhaar, Nieman held an excellent line to
bring it home for the win. Verhaar settled for second, followed by
Wood, Mike Kresnak, David Dancer, Gary Buskirk, Brian LeBaron, Ashlee
Scott, Tim Sooy, Thomas Stevens, and Taven Jensen-Kress. Dancer took
heat gold.
In probably the most exciting event of the night, Kyle Prochazka took
the win in a literal dog fight from a couple of the best in the
division by mere inches in the Smokers Club Street Stock class. Will
Stanley and Mike Vandermark, Jr. were all over Prochazka right to the
flag in a hotly but cleanly contested race. Stanley came home second,
followed by VanderMark Jr, Robert Griffin, Ryan Lewis, Jeff Fisher,
Larry Kosloski, Al Kiester, Nick Daniels, and Kevin Rohn. Fisher and
VanderMark took heat wins.
Next week at Crystal Motor Speedway is a huge fan favorite night with
the second “Yes 2 Kids” night. Kids are able to ride with one of their
favorite drivers if they arrive between 6 and 7 PM race night. The
night also features the group Compassion for Greyhounds, a group
devoted to the rescue and adoption of former racing dogs. Their
website is www.compassionforgreyhounds.org/ The evening is
sponsored by Royston Auto Sales. Gates open at 4:30 with racing at
