Crystal Motor Speedway celebrated the 233rd “Fourth Of July”
anniversary signing of the Declaration of Independence in grand style
Saturday night. A standing room only crowd was on hand to watch 143
cars compete on the national holiday, all sponsored by Anderson
Contracting and Renovations of Vestaburg.
The first order of business was to complete the rained off features
from the previous weekend. Young Ken Zeigler scored his first ever
feature win in the Races On The Web Flinn Stocks over Cory Burch,
Gavin Parks, Kory Maurice, Randall Stevens, Neil Zeigler, Terri Hale,
Lanny VanderVeen II, Ryan Brady, and James Wright. Burch and
Hollenbeck scored heat gold.
The Kentucky Fried Chicken Late Model feature saw Stanton resident
Rusty Seaver out duel Zack Olger for the win. Matt Pickard was third,
followed by Jay Van Dyke, Carl Ries, Dean Huizenga, Tim Stott, Troy
VanderVeen, Mark Andersen, and Brock Cogswell. Andersen won the B main
with heats falling to Andy Sprague, Scott Haney, and Ries.
Roger Flinn III had his hands full the entire race but held on to win
his first feature of 2009 in the Engine Pro IMCA Modified event over
Greg Wiles, Joe Fowler, Carl Thayer, Milt Montgomery, Brennan Bowen,
Brad Roberts, Rich White, Clifford Denman, and Chad Wernette. Josh
Borton took the B Main with heats going to Fowler, Flinn, and Lonnie
Eavey.
Cheney Newland won another Port City Racing Pro Stock event, moving up
from his ninth place starting position to win over Nate Jones, Mike
Husted, Derrick Dennis, Ryan Kent, Greg Mandoka, Barry Rinard, Jeff
Loomis, Jeff Reist, and Vern Buskirk. Jacob Headley and Jones took
heat wins.
The Smokers Club of Mt Pleasant Street Stock feature was won by Will
Stanley, also moving from ninth to winner, followed by Robert Griffin,
Larry Kosloski, Nick Daniels, Lloyd Long, Jeff Hitsman, Anthony
Carlton, Mike Vandermark, Jr., Brooke Ann Brasington, and Kyle
Prochazka. Griffin and Daniels took heat wins.
Mike Kresnak scored his third feature win in the Port City Pro Truck
division over Scott Nieman, Kevin Deal, Chris Verhaar, Tim Wood, Brian
LeBaron, Jim Snyder, Tim Sooy, and David Dancer. Neiman scored the
heat win.
With all of that action in the books, the regular program scheduled
for the holiday began with Scott Haney following up a strong
performance in the first feature with a feature win in the second.
Rusty Seaver ended the night with a one-two finish with his second
place finish, followed by Ryan VanderVeen, Kyle Borgman, Carl Ries,
Tim Stott, Jay Van Dyke, Mark Andersen, Brian Nickerson, and Troy
VanderVeen. Kurt Mesman grabbed the B Main with VanderVeen, Ries, and
Haney taking heat wins.
The Flinn Stock feature saw Ashlee Scott fight her way to the front
and the win, only to be claimed. She refused the claim and thus
disqualified. The win was awarded to Brady Hollenbeck, followed by Ken
Zeigler, Randall Stevens, Lanny VanderVeen II, Logan Forist, Trevor
Hollis, Terri Hale, Cory Burch, Charles Peterson II, and Justin
Crandall. Burch and Zach Rummer won heats.
Robert Putt started on the pole and never looked back as he grabbed
the Engine Pro IMCA Modified win over Carl Thayer, Roger Flinn III,
Jerry Hunt, Joe Fowler, Chad Wernette, Rodney King, Aaron Raby, Chad
Maurer, and Rusty Zeigler. Brennan Bowen and Zeigler took B Main wins
with heats falling to Flinn, Raby, Hunt, and Thayer.
Jeff Reist showed the ‘boys’ he still had it as the 64 year old multi
season division champion moved up from tenth position to claim his
first win in the Pro Stock feature over Chaney Newland, Jacob Headley,
Terry LaClear, Mike Husted, Barry Rinard, Jeff Loomis, Derek Schestag,
Derrick Dennis, and A.J. Ward. Renton Hurley won the B Main with Don
Rohn, Newland, and Nate Jones taking heat gold.
Pro Truck action saw Chris Verhaar come from fifth to claim the win
over Kevin Deal, Scott Nieman, Tim Wood, Mike Kresnak, Jim Snyder, Tim
Sooy, Brian LeBaron, David Dancer, and Teven Jensen-Kress. Verhaar
also took the heat win.

good run in the first feature, came back to take the final feature
over Robert Griffin, Will Stanley, George Weasem Al Kiester, Larry
Kosloski, Lloyd Long, James Prochazka, Wayne Parkhurst, and Anthony
Carlton. Roger Stewart won the B Main while heat wins fell to
VanderMark, Stanley, and Doug McKeown Sr.
