May 25, 2009 - Senneker Captures All-Star Performance All-Star Showdown
Terry Senneker remained undefeated in 2009 by capturing the All-Star Performance All-Star Showdown in front of a packed house at Kalamazoo Speedway on Sunday. Todd Harrington jumped from his second starting spot into the early lead but it didn’t take long for Andy Bozell to power by and into the top spot. Bozell would hold off Brian Bergakker to win the first 25-lap segment. Randy Day, Phil Bozell and Senneker were third through fifth at the first break. Andy then drew a 1 for the inversion of segment #2 meaning he would start on the pole. An early accident in the second segment took out Trent Hellenga and Saturday night’s last chance winner Rick Sexton. On the restart after the incident Bergakker took the lead from Bozell and Senneker quickly moved to second. Finally with five laps to go in segment #2 Senneker passed Bergakker for the top spot and held on to win the segment. Joe Bush moved to third by the completion of segment #2 ahead of Andy Bozell and Randy Day. Senneker would not be as lucky with his inversion draw however as he drew a 4 for the final inversion. That put Andy Bozell back on the pole for the final $5,000 to win segment. Joe Bush quickly grabbed the lead when the green flew for the final dash for cash as Senneker moved to second spot. Just four laps later Senneker blew by Bush and set sail to claim the win. Bush held on for second ahead of Bergakker, Andy Bozell and Randy Day. Phil Bozell, Tom Thomas, Steve Needles, Brandon Lyons and Jeff Ganus rounded out the top ten.
At the conclusion of the Showdown the Belle Tire Enduro Series hit the track for the running of the Veterans 200. Underdog Mark Kelley took home the win 12.5 seconds ahead of Sam Andrews and the 126 other competitors. Point leader Dave Miller was third ahead of Ed Clausen and Greg LaPierre. Duane Green, Larry Hollenbeck, Barry Jenkins, Jerry Jansen and Robert Rheinsburg rounded out the top ten. 11th place finisher Mike Malin picked up the $300 bonus for the highest finishing car with an automatic transmission while Jenkins got the $200 bonus for the highest finishing four door. 25th place Brock Sweeter took home $100 bonus for the highest finishing station wagon while 39th place Heather Teall got $100 bonus for the highest finishing female. 45th place Daton Wright (15 years old) was the youngest driver in the top 50 and picked up a $100 bonus while Hollenbeck (60 years old) was the oldest of the top 50 and picked up a $100 bonus.
