Coach Janson Scores Klassic
(Kalamazoo, Mi) The Kalamazoo Speedway played host to the Belle Tire 4cly enduro on Sunday night in front of a packed house. Over 130 cars came out for the biggest car count in the enduro this year. The Wild and Crazy Spectator Drags and fireworks topped off the racing program for the evening.
There were no You Tube high lights in this edition of the Spectator Drags this holiday weekend, but there was some bad fast action. The field saw some big time names in this event from Kenny Head, Brett Knight, “Boom Boom” Butchy Glass, and Evan Park. Last minute entry Kenny Head battled his way through the field to the finals to meet former winner Evan Park from Indiana in the finals. Evan Park destroyed veteran Late Model racer Kenny Head in two straight victories in the best of three race. In the post race interview Evan Park dedicated the win to his racing idol “The Pink Panther” Jasper Case the Outlaw Late Model legend from the Angola Motor Speedway. After the Spectator Drags the Kalamazoo Speedway gave away close to 50 bikes to the kids that attended the races thanks to the Drivers, Employees, and sponsors.
The 200 lap Belle 4cly enduro called the Kalamazoo Klassic saw the highest car count of the 2008 season with 131 cars taking the green flag. In the tradition of the enduro the drivers didn’t know what direction they were going until they came out on to track. The Kalamazoo Speedway boss ordered them to go counter clock wise for the entire 200 laps. Also an added twist to try and keep the racing fun and cheap Gary Howe also announced that the winner of the race most swap cars with the 51st place finisher the first guy out of the money or forfeit the $5,000 prize. The fans were treated to the best racing action for the 2008 enduro season with the closest racing action and parking lot of stalled cars on the front stretch creating the obstacle course to entertain the fans. The field saw drivers such as Phil Bozell, Jacob Caines, Cory Pressler, John Hyder, and the White Trash Gang to show the talent in the field. The Wheelen NASCAR score board was lighted up with several different names for a change a top the leader board. In the first 150 laps the number one spot saw names such as Andrew Conklin, Alan Breuker, Jamie Hancock, and Lenard Ganey. At lap 150 mark it saw 5 cars still on the lead lap and the above drivers swapping the top five positions.
