Hello everyone,
Weather permitting, I am planning on March 20th and 21st for some track cleaning. I am hoping there might be some volunteers willing to help out on these two days. Keep checking this message thread for more info as we will still wait until a few days prior to that weekend to do this for sure. It will all depend on how the weather looks.
Here's what I can think of right off hand that will need to be done:
Tech barn: Clean and organize contents, sweep floors. Fire up the safety truck and utility truck. Change oil. Test the scales.
Tower: Clean and sweep. Compile a list of items needed. Test PA system and cordless mic.
All restrooms: Put toilet valves back together in preparation for powering up the well pumps. Restrooms are in good shape but may need minor cleaning.
Concession kitchens: Clean and organize. Clean floors and all counters, sinks, cabinets, etc. Coca Cola coolers will be gone so those areas can be cleaned in preparation for the Dr Pepper 7Up coolers. Compile lists of items needed.
Main ticket booth: Clean and organize. Compile list of needed items.
Pit booth: Same as main ticket booth.
Pit office. Clean, sweep, and organize. Test the pit PA system.
Souvenir shop: Clean and sweep.
Pop shop (former photo booth): Clean and prepare for Dr Pepper cooler. We will sell pop, ice cream, chips, etc out of this building.
Walk-in freezer: Clean walls and floor. Get it ready to power up.
Other items to do:
Test caution lights on track.
Test track lighting, pit lighting, and parking lot lighting. Test all lights in all buildings. Note where we need to get new bulbs.
Weed wack everywhere, on both sides of the concrete retaining wall all the way around the track. Week wack around grandstand supports. Week wack around buildings. Weed wack along all fences. Weed wack around trees. Then spray to control weeds in all areas.
Plant flowers at base of sign out front. Think of other areas where flowers would look nice.
Does anyone know who might have a tractor with a large mower that can cut at least a 15 foot wide path? I would like to work out some sort of arrangement to have the large areas around the facility mowed every week or whenever it is needed. It would be nice if all I had to worry about personally was all the trimming with a garden tractor along the fence rows, around trees, and in other tight areas where the big mowing equipment can't go. Mowing with a 15 foot cut takes about 4 hours to do the whole property, not including trim work. Mowing with a 6 foot deck powered by the PTO on the back of an old Ford tractor takes 3-4 afternoons every week. I know this from experience! I need to devote that time to keeping the rest of the operation running smoothly. I am willing to work out whatever can be done to get the mowing done, whether it be to pay (hopefully not an outrageous price) to have it done, trade for it somehow, exchange for sponsorship and advertising at the track, whatever it takes. This is something we have to do to keep the place looking nice. If someone can think of a way to get this done, please let me know.
Keep tabs on this message thread as we get closer to March 20th and 21st, or beyond that if need be. And please post here if you think you can help out in any way, shape or form. With just a little bit of help and TLC, we can get this place looking very, very nice for what will hopefully be the best season ever for this speedway.
Thanks...
